The Great Debate... In-Shop or Mobile Service

I often get asked if it is best to have a windshield replaced in-shop or have mobile service to my home or work. The answer is if you are able to have in-shop service done, that is what is best for your vehicle.

There are a few good reasons that support this suggestion. The first being the fact that when your windshield is replaced, after the old one is cut out we take the time for proper installation by removing all the old urethane from the body of the vehicle. Once we have the urethane (urethane is the glue that bonds the glass to the metal body of your vehicle) removed, we then take an clean up an rust that may be lurking in the pinch weld. While this is being done your vehicle is open and the interior is exposed to the exterior elements if we are working out side. You can get dust, debris, rain or snow inside your vehicle. Having your windshield replaced in-side a shop allows us to control the temperature and keeps the vehicle clean and dry. The second reason is in the winter, there are adhesives that are rated for temperatures as low as zero, however most of the components with those adhesives are not rated for below 30 degrees. Your windshield is a very important component of your car and in some vehicles it is a structrual element of your vehicle. Proper installation is important for the safety of you and your family.

Crow River Glass, Inc. offers free pick up and delivery service for all vehicles in Hutchinson. There is no additional charge to you from your insurance to have us come to you and provide you with mobile service. For your safety and our employees, our shop has implemented a policy that we will provide mobile service as long as the temperature is above 30 degrees, there is no precipitation or wind gusts of 20 miles or more. If you have a heated garage or shop that we can work in, we certainly do that.

Remember Minnesota law gives you the right to choose your auto glass provider and prohibits your insurance company from pressuring you to use a certain vendor. They also prohibit glass shops from giving customer incentives for choosing them. If you have any questions reguarding auto glass replacement, feel free to call us at 320-587-2868 or email us at info@crowriverglass.com.
